Paul Marxen Death – A serious two-vehicle crash in rural Renville County has left 65-year-old Paul Marxen of rural Bird Island hospitalized with significant injuries, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon near the intersection of County Road 3 and 830th Avenue in Melville Township, approximately two miles northwest of Bird Island. Emergency responders were called to the scene at about 2:11 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a side-by-side utility vehicle and a water truck.

According to preliminary information released by authorities, the water truck was traveling northbound on County Road 3 when it approached the intersection. At the same time, a side-by-side driven by Marxen was traveling westbound on 830th Avenue. Investigators believe the side-by-side entered the intersection, resulting in a collision with the water truck.

The impact caused serious injuries to Marxen, who was quickly transported to Olivia Hospital and Clinic for treatment. Officials have confirmed that he sustained significant injuries but did not provide additional details regarding his current condition.

The driver of the water truck, identified as 55-year-old Matthew Tucker of North Branch, was not injured in the crash.

Law enforcement officials have stated that there is currently no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. However, they emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that further analysis will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the collision.
